    Back from Flagstaff

to Sonora, CA this afternoon. The picture shows how I did:

My 67 base engine performed almost as well as it did in bringing it from NY, in 1969. The luggage, about the same.

    Here's my stats:

    Miles traveled: 1428 miles
    Gas usage: 83.82 gallons
    Mileage: 17.04 mpg
    Travel time: 21hr50min
Average speed: 65.41 mph (I guess I was pushing it)
Oil usage: 1-1/2 quarts (Is that good for a 60,000 mile engine?)
Never got over 200 degrees with the Vintage Air blasting, and mostly stayed around 180.

Had a wonderful time at Flagstaff and met some great people. Can't wait to get my score sheets to figure out my next project.

It was really a pretty pleasant drive home. Found a couple of Oldies stations on the FM. Those Honda's are really lucky that they didn't play "Hotel California".

    Having fun,

Also, I love those Arizona Post Mile Markers

Calibrated my speedometer on them for 100 miles. With Coker P205/75R15's my trip odometer was running slow by 2.3% Guess that means that my speedo is also slow by the same percent.

              Re: Back from Flagstaff

Glad you did what those cars were made for--driving!
I drove my 62 Gulf Oil racer (restored, 1st-ever NCRS Heritage Award winner) from San Diego to Sparks, Nev. in 1986 for the NCRS meet there. 1100 miles round trip. Ear plugs all the way because of the Daytona/Sebring style open exhaust exiting at the rear of the rocker panel (36 inches from my ears). That car was so fast, so loud, so hot, and so much fun!!!!
(and Roy-all sorts of non-stock items like aircraft landing lights in grille, fender scoops, hood air deflector and louvers, exhaust shields, etc.)
Also drove it 650 miles round trip Milwaukee to St. Paul for the NCRS national in the 90's.
Those old cars were made to be driven!
Glad you did well and the trip went well!

                Jerry,

-------Im would guess that a quart per thousand at your motors age would be perfectly acceptable. Sounds like a fun trip. Congratulations on the ribbon. Did you have those restored seat-belts fastened???

                  Bill, Used your buckle tops

with my original buckle backs (matching numbers) and belts. Also used the heavier pawl spring from yours to prevent "inertial unlatching".

Haven't got the score sheets yet but I think I got full credit on the belts. It was a great trip, the longest I've taken the 67 since 69.

                  Thanks again,
