        Adam...

Both Paragon and CC have the soft aluminum rivets 50/100 per bag. Universal Head 3/16 dia.X 9/16 long. Countersink heads are also available...

            Adam,

Dennis is correct. The aluminum rivets are the correct way to attached them. If there is a washer on the back side it is Bubba's repair. The rivets were peened over with a tool that made the rivets rounded, or mushroomed over on the underside of the car and the top part of the rivets was inside the car. At least that is the way they were on my 58. I highly doubt whether the procedure was changed through 1962. You might ask Reverand Mike Ernst. He would know for sure.

It will require you and a budddy to do it correctly. I used an air chisel, with the chisel bit cut off and then rounded/hollowed out the bit with a grinder/dremmel tool. This made for a nice mushroomed over head on the underside of the car. You will need a buddy with a heavy hammer pressing hard against the top side of the rivet to prevent the rivet from popping out while you use the air tool. You can hammer it too, but the air tool make it a lot easier and quicker.

Air Hammer is the way to go... set at 15 - 35 p.s.i. hole the trigger until the end of the concave tool has bottomed out on the surface of the metal part. Several aircraft tool suppliers offer the setting tool on the web and C.C. has them
              (which I never tried)
