Re: 1959 wheels
Dennis, how do you know that 3714744 was spot welded and 3723561 was riveted?
I believe Noland is wrong on the late '56-'62 wheels having riveted wheels as installed on some Corvettes (and therefore the JGM). In his book he states that the drawings show that 3723561 is spot welded and 3714744 is riveted. I have the 3714744 drawing and it does show the wheel as being riveted BUT these rivets were added to the drawing AFTER the wheel went into service as different part numbers but shown on the 3714744 drawing. The revision column shows that this happened well after '62 corvettes went out of production. You really need to study the drawing notes to see this and I believe this was missed as he wrote the book. Are there any '56-'62 cars out there with original riveted wheels with proper dates? These wheels should have the double hump on the spyder.
I do not have a 3714744 drawing and wonder where it says it was spot welded.
Here is a picture of the dogbones. (dogbones were not used on '60-62) use chenige for user name and password.
I do have a non dogbone wheel that is correct for 60-62 that is dated 5/60. I also have a dated '53 KH wheel and a late '56-59 dated wheel(welded dogbones) though the year is not clear.

Re: 1959 wheels
Definitely date coded. Where the Kelsey-Hayes logo is stamped on the wheel (covered over when the tire is mounted) there will be a two-digit stamp for the year, and a single-digit stamp , not anywhere closely aligned with the two-digit stamp, for the month.)
Dogbones were actually areas in the center section, where the center meets the outer rim, where there was a stamping that removed metal from the center in a dogbone shape.
Centers, where hubcap (as opposed to wheel cover) would mount, should have the double-hump profile as Chris has indicated.- Top
