    Restoring a 1968 435 from Almost Nothing.

    Hi,

What are some good publications , dvds or anything to help on 68-9

I have the assembly manual, 68-72 frame resto guide and 68 -82 resto guide by r prince which is poor

Is the 68-9 cd worth the 40 bucks for the articles?

I was told to get these also....

    (1) 1968-69 NCRS Technical Information Manual And Judging Guide

    (2) 1968 Assembly Instruction Manual

    (3) 1968 Chevrolet Chassis Service Manual ?

    (4) Fact Book of the 1968-72 Stingray

Also, Do these guys allow anything to be pained with the Hi-tech paints that they sell for the hi-val prices through all the big name catalogs

One big question that I have is that there are so many semi - flat blacks used

I did pick up th Caswell copy cad kit to plate a lot of stuff. I also got the yellow and olive drab cad die crystals. It does zinc, cad , gold cad , silver cad, flat black. Most all the finishes used.

Has anyone used this and what things get plated what. Like I said I am putting this thing back together from nothing.

I'm not familar with 4. the Fact Book but the others 1 thru 3 will prove to be invaluable. I'll let others speak to other parts of your question.

Get Rick Bizzoco's book "'69 Stingray Guidebook", Crane's Corvettes has it. It is fantastic for '68 and '69, tons of pictures and detailed discussions. Also, a corvette restoration guide by Lindsay Porter is very good, they basically do a frame-off on a '69 427 convertible.

I agree, the Prince guide doesn't add much technical info to the sources you listed.

I'm also bringing a 427/435 ('69) back from pieces, and the AIM and Bizzoco's book are the most useful yet.

I've heard rumors that Noland Adams is working on a Volume 3 Restoration Guide for C3's but no details...any one know for sure?

PS: Posting here and on the Corvette Forum technial page has been absolutely most effective way to resolve specific questions. The responses are typically rapid, from multiple points of view.

With respect the the use of "faux" finished from a spray can, they generally are detectible from a judging perspective. The Caswell and other plating systems have some extensive discussion on this board with some excellent results, check the archives.

Rick Bizzoco's "'69 Stingray Guidebook" is worth the price.

Rick Bizzoco's book has a wealth of information, however, the photos seem, at least to my ol' tires eyes, dark and rather small, lacking conveyence of information intended in the accompanying text. If the publisher realized this problem for serious enthusiasts, they might consider printing a re-edited version with larger, clearer photos even though this would add considerable pages. There are a lot of photos in Rick's book.

I am about half way done with my 68 427/435 project. I know Rick Bizzoco through many e-mails. His book has been "invaluable" to me! I'd highly recomend it~

              Where are you located?

                Hey guys,

                Thanks for the info.

                Im in NJ

Has anyone used the 68-69 cd they sell here on this site.

That 69 book sounds pretty good according to almost everyone.

A question about judging being I am on the east coast where stuff rusts and oxidizes overnight

Are any coatings that are clear to protect bare metals acceptible.

I just got done glass blasting some stuff and it looks like it was never done. It took me 3 hours to get the intake nice and 2 days later it was getting white oxidation.

I just starting this thing. I ve been on the DL since 99 as I had to have a disc fused and both knees redone. Mean while, I have 5 others that I have picked up over the years sitting waiting resto with with all these surgeries and the daddy thing.

My son wants the 74 BB convt thats been sitting around since he was born as he is almost 17

Seems to be a helpfull site and I am much apprecitive of that
