Hi volume, hi pressure pumps do have a place....
in street engines....for example, you've got a 250K+ engine, never been torn down, oil pressure barely reaches 15 lbs due to excessive clearances on the bearings due to wear, you want to move the car, but can't due to the low oil pressure. You don't want to spend the big bucks for a rebuild and not to mention time. Enter hi volume/hi pressure pump. Install it, voila, now you've got a respectable 35-45 lbs pressure, good enough to move the car.
Pity the poor soul who buys it, rebuilds the motor, installs the same pump, and within 500-2000 miles, the motor is history.
To wrap this up, I've never ever had any problems running 60 lbs, never went higher though. This was almost 30 years ago during my road racing days, when on the track, I ran one quart over, and no, the oil never foamed, and I never spun a bearing.
