    Dang NCRS!

This post goes right along with the "point decduction" post by David Wolf and I have to say that I laughed at Roy's response "Welcome to I drive my Corvette Club".

I just had a new soft top put on my Vette and went with a friend of mine to pick it up yesterday. In looking at the top we saw the very obvious rear tag on the outside that says "Warning - Dealer Do Not Remove". The installer noted that we should leave it there for NCRS purposes. My friend however, looked at me and said "You can't leave that thing on, you'll look like an idiot!" He's right of course.

So now what? Be correct for judging, and have pride that some other Corvette owners will realize the tag is a good thing, or drive around with 99% of people thinking I'm a doofus for not removing it?

Dang NCRS. It's in my blood now, and I can't escape it.

    Dave-----

It's really very simple: the point deduction for not having the tag is very minor. So, if the tag bothers you or makes you feel foolish, simply remove it. NCRS does NOT demand that the tag be left in place. You can remove it and still qualify for a Top Flight or other awards.

If you wish absolute maximum judging points, leave it in place. The choice is entirely yours.

      Dave,

At least the installer gave you a choice instead of just removing it himself. I'd leave it on until you have the car judged.

I'll bet you keep the top down most of the time so everyone can see your cheesy grin anyway...

I understand that Joe. My post was mostly about the silliness that ensues when NCRS gets in your blood.

If it was a trailer queen I wouldn't be worried about people seeing the dumb tag.

I think I'm gonna go take the Vette for spin now. It's like happiness in a bottle.

Back in 96 while atttending a local chapter meet. Brought my (then) 63 L-76 ragtop to the event. I had just installed a new Al Knoch top on it the previous week. I was not being judged so I chose to peruse the rides. When I came back to my car found my TAG missing. Couple of the judges were standing nearby. Nobody knew anything. Just then my wife Tina shows up. I turn ever so slowly to her and Inguire about the tag. She pulls it out of her pocket saying "I thought it looked dumb so I pulled it off for you". The NCRS guys gave me a look like ain't life grand. The tag resided in my glove box till I sold the car.

tc's right. You don't buy a convertible to drive around with the top up. My good friend told me the top is only there if you decide you need it when it rains!!!!!!!!!!!! Next time buy a coupe and you'll not have to worry about any tag. Have fun. Pete

And you have the top up for what reason?

If you are not having it judged at the time, why is the top up?

You don't need no stingin' tag!

                            If you drive your car.

I have a hardtop on my 67 with a WHITE vinyl cover. At Flagstaff, I got a total deduct on Color for the WHITE vinyl hardtop on my original paint (85 points off). But I still made Top Flight.

Had I presented it with the 35 year old convertible top in back (which is a piece of junk), I would have had less points off.

So, maybe next time I'll present it with a little kit convertible top which I have had for years sitting in a box. It ain't gonna have any tag and no date code. I'll probably get less points off then with the hardtop, but then I could drive it without being totally embarrassed.

The tag was probably meant to be taken off by the owner shortly after he took delivery, just like the tag on a mattress. Who would drive around with this silly tag, and it was probably gone within 6 months of delivery. The existence of the tag at judging, is evidence of a reproduction, and there ought to be points off for that.

But I'm still a happy camper with my white vinyl hardtop. And I don't need no stingin' tag.

                            Having fun,
