    '55 leaf spring color

I'll be rebuilding my leaf springs in the next few days, what is the correct color for the leaves, black or steel? Thanks.

If I may invoke Dale, he once told me

they were silver, and then got blacked out when the chassis was assembled, while upside down, which meant the top and inside were sometimes not very black at all.

Are you relining them? My liners are getting pretty bad, with some chunks missing. Seems to be waxy cardboard.
