    1964 3-digit engine assembly date?

    Hi,

My understanding is the engine assembly date and suffix identification code format is FMMDDXX. However, I saw a car with F074RE, which seems to be missing a digit. Is it possible to have a 3 digit date like this example?

I guess this could be July 4, but based on the VIN (119xxx), the car seems to have been built in June.

    Thank you,
    Brendan

Anything is "possible", but the "RE" suffix was only used from '62-'64, well past the years where months 1-9 only used one digit, which wouldn't make sense with those numbers anyway. I'd say it would definitely attract further scrutiny on the judging field.
