    1975 'K' Body Build Date ???

    Gentlemen,
I own '75 s/n 438207 with an indicated (driver side door frame tag) 'K 06' body build date. Every reference I have indicates that 'J' (= July) was the last month of body production for 1975; no mention of a 'K'.
Am I missing something here or can someone offer an explanation?
    Thank you / Steve

    Steve:

I don't thinking you're missing anything here. I know of others who may have a more precise explanation but I would venture to say you ordered a 75 (or the original owner) and a 75 would be delivered though production rolled into the 76 production year but maintained the "K" 75 production code sequence to be consistent with previus production years.

Remember...this wasn't science but rather production. Think about it. The car was ordered as a 75 and the body was built Aug 06 75...days near the end of 75 production. We don't know the precise production rollover but with some research I'm sure this could be pegged.

I guess the bottom line for me is that I would trust your date code trim tag before trusting publications that were printed decades after the car rolled off the factory floor unless the rivets look like they've been tampered with. Their data (publishers) was historical with some interpretation none of which took into consideration the nuances of production. Consider the Birthday Book...it's an estimate by day and month of production...hardly a precise calendar based on actual production numbers by day.

Also consider all your other date codes that lead up to the trim tag date code. What about delivery papers or build sheet...which would make for an interesting data link. It (build sheet) lists an estimated production date which may have well projected it into August or the 76 production year.

I would further suggest you contact the team leader Marvin Burnett or Paul Borowski. Paul keeps pretty good tabs on 74-75 Corvettes that have been judged and can offer some additional insights.

I belive I seen this same thing at a regional. Some quick math says the made 4077 and 4171 units in May and June and then in July the number is 4991. I think your trim tag K06 is correct but no one is interested in correcting the books.
