    gear grinding

    I have a 1961 3- speed.When the tranny is warm it's tough to get into first gear without grinding,any suggestions? Thanks

      Check tranny oil,linkage for loosness and check clutch adjustment.This might help.

          FYI - I had a 3 spd that you had to move the shifter towards reverse before first or it would grind. Don't know why but it worked. Maybe something to do with the synchronizer.

              The '61's weren't synchronized in 1st or reverse.

              Either learn how to double clutch or come to a complete stop before you use either of these two gears. You can't engage either gear as soon as you shove the clutch in. Allow time for the input shaft to stop spinning. If you do this and it still grinds a little, your clutch is dragging and not disengaging completely. In the meantime, put it in second gear and then quickly go to 1st. That should minimize it.
