John-Does the removal of posts by password help relieve board resources?I had asked this question of you long ago in regards to not letting posts of frivolous material end up in the archives. At that time your response was it didn't matter as we had plenty of space. How times have changed.Lou

Re: Removing previous posts-John W.
Lou,
The way the scripting is set up all posts become part of a database. The screen that is presented with all of the links to the messages is generated from the index of this database. Message in the database are taking up physical space on the server, which is not a problem at this time. We have plenty of headroom there. The truth is that it probably takes slightly more resources to run the script to delete a message, and delete the message from the index than it does to just leave it. I am slowly paring down the number of messages that are on the main board, moving them to the archives sooner.
The archives are another problem. I am soon going to have to tackle breaking them into sub-archives. 1998 Archives, 1999 Archives, etc. I would love to have a way of scrubbing out the non-restoration posts as they are going to the archives. This would be a great way to reduce the load on the archives. I just haven't come up with an automated process for that function yet. Maybe someday in the future.
In the meantime anyone who would like to add their password to all non-restoration posts could go to the archives once a week or so do a search on their post name and delete any of the messages that did not need to be saved for posterity.

Re: Removing previous posts-John W.
John --- How about a check box beside the password box, with a description similar to "Should this posting be archived ?" If properly used, this would weed out the 'thank you"s and maybe the non-Corvette tangents that enter into the threads (which I do enjoy, but maybe should not be part of the data base).
The script could be written to delete whithout archiving at the end of the active headings.- Top

Wayne,
That is already on my wish list of things to find time to do.
