C1 1958 generator fan and generator pulley

Are there any other low-hp EARLY '58s out there that can look at their generator pulley, and tell me is there a (maybe belt-width) gap between generator fan and the generator pulley?

I'm told that 58-62 low hp engines should all have a gap between fan and pulley.
Before I buy a correct diameter offset pulley with that gap to the fan, I want to be sure that EARLY '58s weren't different - as they are in so many things!

The current edition of the JG doesn't make a distinction between early and late '58 cars in terms of the gen pulley. From the AIM, you can see the pulley is called out as a separate component meaning it met up with the 2043 generator at the final assy plant and wasn't shipped with the generator from Delco.

I suspect the change over from the non-spaced pulley used in '56-57 to the version that had the pulley spaced out about 1/4-inch from the integral pulley was done at model year change over to agree with the geometry of the other mating parts (gen mounting bracket, front brace, upper pulley)....

      Al,

My guess is that you are correct that there is a difference for an early 58 v. late 58. The conversion in mid-production to a left side hood support versus the right hand side to avoid the fan belt from making contact with the lower radiator hose may have used a different generator pulley, to line up with the different harmonic balancer pulley and the shallower water pump pulley.

I am not sure there would be a difference for low horse v. high horse.

I will try to remeber to check mine tonight; early 245 HP.

        Hi Jack -
Yes I see the JG maikes no distinction, but we are also very aware that the generator mounting and other pulley spacing changed sometime AFTER the model changeover, I'm trying to learn if the early '58s may have used the unspaced 57 pulley & fan prior to that mounting change.
