    cigarette lighter

    Hi all

I'm looking for a cigarette lighter for my 62 vette. I have the housing but need the lighter. Does anyone know where I can get one? What other cars have the same if I go look in a junk yard?

    Thanks for your help......John

    John-----

The heating element for your 1962 application was discontinued by GM in 1985.

You should be able to find an identical element, though, in the following vehicles:

55-62 Chevrolet passenger cars (likely, most other 55-62 GM cars, too)

    55-59 series 3 light trucks

    60-62 series 10-30 light trucks

        Add on...

Casco also supplied lighters to other GM car lines, the competition (Ford, Chrysler, Etc.) and supplied auto parts distributors directly. The original lighter element for your car was packaged by Casco and sold as their L144-C part. NOS originals come up on eBay quite frequently. What you're looking for is the sliding ash guard barrel to be embossed simply "Casco 12V", a white ceramic insulator installed behind the heating element, and the upper body (where the knob screws in) to be black Bakelite vs. later era stamped steel construction...

          John,
Additionally, be careful to identify the element in any lighter you find from a passenger car, as many of them are Rochester units, rather than Casco. They will not interchange with the same knob or heating socket. It seems the Corvettes were universally Casco, although my '62 parts book lists a Rochester "knob with element" for '61 & '62 Corvette. I don't know what variations may have existed in production.

Verne - Good point. The Rochester units were certainly more common in Chevelles, Chevy IIs, Corvairs, and Chevrolets. Corvettes to the best of my knowledge used mainly the Casco units. If someone out there has a Rochester unit in their Corvette and it's known to be original, it would be good to hear from them. Pete
