I am new to this so bear with me, I need some help debugging this Oil Pressure issue I am having on a 1981 C3 I am restoring. I have replaced the guage, flex circuit, and sender and get just slight deflection of the needle. When I ground the lead under the hood I get full deflection, when I replace senders(2) I get no change. I put in idiot light sender and I get full deflection. I know guage works and I know wire is good but I have heard some talk of a resistor on the guage, any help here would be appreciated. Also I have NO teflon tape on the fittings and still no change. Help!

Re: Oil Pressure Guage C3
Dennis------
A resistor was used on all 1975-82 Corvette oil pressure gauges. However, in SERVICE, the resistor was supplied with the gauge and was not available seperately. I don't know what the specs were for the resistor.
Also, the gauges on your car function with a printed circuit as an integral component of the system. It's POSSIBLE that there could exist a problem with the printed circuit. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Oil Pressure Guage C3
Joe,
Thank you. I have replaced the flexible circuit board as well. I had heard sometimes connections to this are a problem. I guess my next step is to pull the guage pod again and see if I can diagnose a problem on this assembly.- Top

Re: Oil Pressure Guage C3
Hello.
Have you connected a mechanical gage to the same place as the sender to verify that there really is pressure there? Also make sure that the sending unit is for a gage and not an idiot light some stores mix them up.
Hope this helps

Re: Oil Pressure Guage C3
Yep, I have check and double check the units and the oil pressure and I have put an idiot light sender in also and get deflection to full scale as I would expect. I am planning to take out the4 guage pod again and all the fittings in the bloxk just to make sure my grounds etc are all good- Top
