Does a french lock get installed on the exhaust manifold bolts that hold the AC bracket? If so, what would be the correct way to install it?

I thought they did away with french locks in
68 and went with the shoulder type manifold bolts? Even my late 67 S/B (never been off manifold) has no french locks and the shoulder type bolts.
Am I wrong?

Re: Take a look at this post
Gerry--
Looked at your post--I certainlywouldn't argue with you that your car came from the faactory sans french locks. That doesn't mean they all did, and that the judging manual is wrong. In the mid 70's already, I documented an original-owner, less than 10K mile 62 with a generator for solid-lifter cars on a 300 hp (hydraulic lifter) motor. The dating was right on. It was installed incorrectly. We can't change the manual to reflect when the assembly does something that is incorrect.
In a situation like that, I've always encouraged the owner to talk to the team leader prior to judging, let him know that you have a non-standard item, that you know it is non-standard, and that you have chosen to leave it as it is because you believe, for reasons x,y, and z, that that is the original part/configuration for your car. You then are subject to the call he decides to make.
Otherwise, you can change it to get the judging points, and struggle with having changed something you believe to be original.
That is your call.
By the way, my 30K mile 71 LT-1 convertible has french locks, as per the assembly manual callout. Thyose haven't been off, either.
I do understand your dilemma, however!- Top

I'm going to go with my factory originals ,
regardless of the points, Mike. It was a minor deduct (2 points) last September, and may not have been any at the recent Flagstaff meet, since I raised the issue.
But I'm sure there are probably other late 67 small blocks which came out of the factory with no french locks and shoulder headed manifold bolts. If they can switch a block on 06-26-67 (which is my engine date), they could have certainly deleted the french locks and used the shoulder type bolts.
If it came out of the factory that way, then it should be judged correct. But it's not a big deal.

Re: French locks on '72 SB w/AC bracket
Tony,
I just restored my 75 SB w/AC. There was a french lock on the end bolt that held the AC bracket. Of course the tangs couldn't be bent over on the end bolt because of the bracket but the tangs could be bent on the inner bolt.
