    Gus Grissom vette on Ebay

Has anyone seen ebay #4638631834 67 vette for sale at about $125,000.MY question is that the Vin # is 2849,and the body build date on the trim tag is H-10 with a body # S6467.How can this be?

    Al,

You're right, those numbers don't exactly line up very well. I'm a little surprised the seller proudly displayed a picture of the trim/VIN tags. Kinda shoots holes in the entire story.

No #s not right. Build date 4 mos.late. Seller put up #s on ad to say he put decision in buyers hands.

EVERYTHING on that fake trim tag is incorrect - not only for that car, but for ANY Corvette; makes the whole car suspect, in spite of all the hype. A poster on another forum who worked with Gus and remembers the car parked in his reserved space every day said it was blue, not red.

I just noticed that all the pictures are now off the ebay page. I suppose he's going to end the auction? That's ok, I copied the entire ebay page with all the pic's, including the one that shows the VIN/Trim tags.

This car is listed on a page in Hemmings Motor News, this current issue. It is consigned to an auction.

Not surprised at the color change. Guess they decided red/red would be even more expensive. And what about that white hood stripe? Doesn't anyone question that combo?

Geez, what a bunch of BS

I'll bet the pictures come back with a blue car. Red convertible top, didn't know that was an option in 67.

He thinks it will be a million dollar car at B-J next year. Who knows, he may be right. No one seems to care about a Corvette's authenticity there, they just throw wheelbarrows full of money at anything depending on the hype.

Re: Gus Grissom vette on Ebay

I emailed him, just for the fun of it, and asked if this car is the original car, as shown on eBay with original options and colors. I asked if it is THE car that Grissom owned. He replied:

When Gus took delivery of this car it was Lynndale Blue. I have pictures of the car that were taken by my uncle who delivered the car to Gus & Betty back in the fall of 1966.

The color was changed by Mel Phoenix of Merritt Island Florida to red after he acquired the car.

The options are exactly as when Gus bought and drove this car.

The photos will be back on line in a few minutes...our server was down for maintenance.

                    Sincerely;

                    Dr. Marv Friedman

Theres a car in Morehead City, North Carolina where I live that claims to be the Gus Grissom car. It is a 1964 Dark Blue coupe with Factory C-60, small block, 4 speed. I always thought the owner knew what he was talking about. Does anyone know anything about another car he may have owned? Just curious as I always wanted to buy the car but never did. Mike
