I need some old-timers to dust-off the cobwebs and see if anyone can recall the answer to this question:
ST-12 Sec. 12-32 electrical Systems has a diagram of the 6 cylinder distributor. Items 5, 6 and 7 are the Grease Cup, Plug Spring, and Bakelite Plug, respectively. I know the Grease Cup is to hold the chassis lubricant per the manual.
The Question: What is the purpose/function (mine is missing) of the Bakelite Plug and Spring? The spring goes between the Bakelite Plug and the Grease Cup.
1. To limit or restrict the amount of chassis lubricant that can enter the distributor housing at one time? (Normal maintenance calls for the Grease Cup to be turned down one turn every 1,000 miles.)
2. Restrict pressurized (54-55) engine oil from entering the Grease Cap?
3. None of the above...you don't need it anyway! Have another drink
