    75 Convertible Door Glass

I am trying to complete a 75 Corvette convertible restoration and the door glass is giving me a headache. When my client first brought me the car the windshield and door glass were busted out by a baseball bat and needed replacement. We had a difficult time finding the door glass last summer but finally located some. We installed the glass and everything appeared to be going smoothly until we tried to adjust the door glass to the convertible top weatherstrip. There is a gap between the top of the door glass and the weatherstrip big enough to fit your finger through, despite making every adjustment to the door, glass and top possible.

I have since discovered that none of the major Corvette parts suppliers has a listing for 1975 Corvette convertible door glass - it stops at 1974. I suspect that there is something different about 75 door glass and that is what's causing the problem. The glass we currently have installed is for 69L thru 74. I also noticed that there is no part listing for 75 coupe door glass.

Does anyone have any idea what the problem is and how we can solve it?

I really think the glass is the same but I have a 75 convertible and some extra C-3 convertible glass and I will take some measurements. It is not easy to get a good fit in the area you are working on as that fit is usally poor in many C-3's.

I have the same problem with my side glasses mating to the new weatherstrips on the soft top. 1/2" gap. I haven't tried it with the hardtop yet. The glasses are up as far as they can go and I can't adjust the frame down to the glass without having to make adjustments elsewhere, i.e, the rear pins won't release the soft top. Those soft tops are like umbrellas....they only keep rain and sunshine off the head.

Now I am convinced that I'm not nuts. There must be some slight dimensional difference in 75 convertible door glass from the previous years.

There is a cosmetic difference between the 1974 and 1975 convertible side glass. In 1975, they eliminated the "ASTRO VENTILATION logo that was etched on the glass in previous models. That explains why the part number would be different. Since 1975 was the end of C-4 convertible production, the side glass is a one year only design. This means the only correct side glass for your car must not have the logo and that glass will be dimensionally correct. However, I would be surprised if there is any dimensional difference in a convertible LOF side glass from 1969 to 1975.

In the previous post, I meant C-3, not C-4.in referring to convertible production.

              Thanks Lyle -

If there is no dimensional variation I have to admit I am at my wits end as far as getting the window to meet with the weatherstrip using "conventional" means.
