In checking the archives I can't come up with a clear picture of the correct '63 front shock washers and nuts. Jerry can you please post the pics you sent me because this might help. Thanks.

Here's an early '65 original shock/washers/nut
(Regular suspension) Not sure if '63 is same but probably is. This is the original front shock from 014xx, with (I assume original) rubber grommets and nut. The two shock washers (retainers) are NOS (still available, real cheap) # 3790342 [note the oily protective film on the underside view]. I put the original washers back on the car with new shocks, because they were IDENTICAL, dimensionally, to these NOS.
The shock is 3186909, dated 160-64. Has to be original gray paint.
Hope this is of some help.

Re: '63 front shock washers and nuts
John,
I think you'll find that the 63 front upper shock washers look amazingly similar to those found in aftermarket shock installation packages. Diameter is somewhere around 1 1/4" and zinc/cad plated. The pic of the larger grey plated washer that Wayne posted is the style that was used starting in 65 to 82. If someone has a pic of an original 63, I'd be happy to post it.- Top

Re: Here's an early '65 original shock/washers/nut
Wayne-----
1963-64 used a different upper front shock retainer than 65+. The original retainer was GM #5544049. This part had more supercessive part numbers than just about any other part in the GM parts system. It's currently known as GM #25628204 and it's virtually identical to the originals. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: '63 front shock washers and nuts
Mike and others, Thanks for replying to my question. Hopefully someone will post a photo of the correct top shock washer and nut. Response has been unusually slow. Maybe Carlton can help with the question.- Top

Re: Here's an early '65 original shock/washers/nut
I looked up the part number 25628204 that Joe has referenced from GM on www.partsvoice.com. A local dealer here in Nebraska had 16 in stock at a discounted price of 67 cents each. Give Rob at Freison Chevrolet a call at 1-800-525-1691 if you are interested.

Re: I'm too stupid - posting pictures
Jerry, one of the easiest ways I've found to post pictures is tinypic.com.
1. Have your picture on your computer.
2. Go to http://tinypic.com
3. Click the "Browse" button to find your picture.
4. Click "Open"
5. Click "Upload Image"
6. For the NCRS board, go to "Link" and copy everything in that box. It should start "http:/"
7. Paste it in the box next to "Optional Image URL that is below the Message box.
In this case, I found a '63 #20038 and I think it is unrestored. So it may help with the shock washer. Then again, it may have been changed 30 years ago before it went into hiding in a barn.
