Hello All. Can anyone tell me where the VIN would be stamped on a 1966 M22 transmission (driver or passenger side of the case) and what casting numbers should be on the cases? I know only 15 of these cars had this transmission but I though someone here would know. Any information that would help me confirm this issue would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Rick

Re: 1966 M22 Transmission Casting and VIN #'s
Rick------
The main case casting number for 1966 with Muncie transmissions of ALL variants was GM #3885010. The VIN was usually stamped on the passenger side, rear of the case near the transmission manufacturing code stamping. Once again, there's no reason, at all, to expect that this was done any differently for M-22-equipped cars than for other Muncie variants. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

C2 VINs stamped vertically on driver side
.... rear flange of maincase, partially obscured by the shifter rods. The 1966 model year version of VIN format should be 6S1xxxxx. [early '65s used the '63-64 format of Y1xxxxx (Y=year), then switched to only using the S (ie. S123456).
But then in '68-69, the "660" case's passenger side rear flange boss enlarged surface was used for both the Muncie assembly date and the VIN derivative.- Top
