    C2 C3 gas tanks....observations please...

I have a nice original gas tank from a 68 corvette that appears to have been under coated shortly after it was born. I started to remove the under coating and found a prestine original surface under it. The condition of the metal makes me think it was done extremely early in the tanks life. In any case, in the corner of the gas tank under the asphalt coating I found a bolt screwed into the tank and soldered in. Durning manufacturing and testing of the tank do you think it is possible they would institute a repair like this if it didn't interfere with function of the part?? Any else ever run across this?? Its a mistery!!

    Regards to everyone, Terry

I might add that the asphalt coating is only on the underside of the tank. Top side has some surface rust. Terry

      Terry -

I've never seen an original tank with a bolt soldered into it.

Thanks for the info. I will clean the tank up some more today and see what I find. Nice tank though. Terry
