I'm currently rebuilding the engine in my '54 and noticed some wear on the flywheel. In attempting to replace it I have heard everything from "impossible to find" to "any truck flywheel will work". So far I've been unable to come up with one but did find a company that will replace the ring.My engine builder is reluctant to accept this fix as he is worried about balance and vibration.Anybody have any suggestions?

What sort of wear are you referring to? Anyway, any 1950-54 Chevrolet flex-plate (flywheel) will work for any 53-55 Corvette with Powerglide. The original part number was GM #3705386, but it was discontinued a long time ago.
If you have the ring gear replaced, you can and should have the flexplate re-balanced. That will eliminate any problems with balance and vibration. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
