    Part Hardware Question *Joe Lucia*

    Joe,

In the AIM manual, pertaining to a 67 convertible. The interior Quarter trim panels are mounted with 3 screws, with part # 9422442 for the top 2-screws and part # 9420430 for the bottom screw. What configuration are these, hex head or phillips head with captive trim washer and if both which go where. Also where they painted to match the Trim Panel.

    Thanks for your help,

    Don

A guy I know discovered that these exact screws were used in another vehicle from this era and has collected a bunch from old hulks in the junkyard. He sent a few of each style and they're exact but he never would tell me what the source was. I've looked for these for years but never found his source.

      Michael,

The 2- upper screws from my 67 Quarter Trim Panel, are hex head 3/8" screws, with CF stamped in the center. The bottom 3/8" screw, no #'s, is slotted. Not sure if these are the correct type or not. Without the AIM description part #'s denoting what type they were, I don't know if these are the correct ones or not. Maybe Joe's extensive Library can reflect some info.

      Thanks,

      Don

        Don,

I believe the 3/8" hex head fasteners would be correct for the bottom location. The top used chrome washer head phillips screws.

The hex head fasteners were not chrome as they would have been covered by the edge of the carpet so they were not an appearance item. Pretty sure they were zinc/cad. I'll look at my car later this evening to be sure.

I cannot find any specs on the GM #9422442. However, I do have specs on the 9420430. It was a 1/4-14, hex washer head tapping screw of 3/4" length. It was zinc plated. There is even a replacement for this screw currently available from GM. It's GM #12338139. I don't know how much, if any, it differs from the originals.

            Don,

Mine is a coupe, but the hardware sounds similar and I'm the first to disassemble it. Also, my panels are made of a cardboard-type material that is covered with a vinyl covering.

The two top longer screw have a washer that is secured to the panel, kind of folded over on the back side. There is one smaller screw on the bottom near the 3/8" hex-head screw which is through the carpeting. The 3/8" hexhead with my car has the letter "E". My pinchwled caps have two screws holding them, painted the exterior color, Marina Blue. My car is interior color #450 Blue/White. It's an early 67 coupe, built in Dec of 1966.

              Joe,

I found another part # for the screw type you could not find. The # is 9417987. It's on the previous AIM page showing the same top 2- screws, but with different #'s.

                I can't find anything on 9817987, either.

                  Mike,

Would the Chrome washer backed phillips head screws used for the Radio side panels, be the same or very close to the top 2- screws on each of the 2 inner quarter trim panels.

                  Thanks,

                  Don
