    1965 Rear Brake Line Clips

    Hello Everyone,

I need some help with an issue regarding the rear brake line clips that hold the steel lines coming from the calipers to the rubber line going to the brass block. I've looked at my AIM several times and cannot determine if the clip goes on the side with the steel line or under the tab on the frame towards the rubber line side. It seems that the line is most secure with the clip on the steel line side above the frame tab (viewing frame from above). When I put the clip on side with the rubber hose, the line seems to shift and is not very secure. Does anyone know the correct way for this assembly??

    Thank you!!

    Here's from an 86xx VIN '64 -- same principle

John -- I think you are refering to '65 AIM sheet B2 with brake clips item #5. You are right to say there is not enough detail to know which side. The fact that you are even asking this question leads me to believe that you have original brake line hoses (with the groove for C-clip under the bracket) rather than replacement (later C2 ?) hoses with an integral flanged underside replacing the need for a C-clip. So the answer is that the clip #5 goes on the top side, as shown in the pic, with a C-clip underside. If you have the later flanged type hoses, there is only one way for brake line clip #5 to go; that is on the top side. There should be absolutely no movement when installed correctly.

Hope this is what you needed.

      Wayne:

Tnank you very much for the response. That is exactly the photo I needed! However, I am replacing the hoses with new ones as the originals I would not deem very safe. The hoses I have do have a c-clip on them and they also have the groved flange. In any case I would believe that the U-clip needs to be placed on the top side of the frame tab. I cannot see how it would be secure otherwise.

      Thank you,
      John
