How to install Dipstick tube on a c2

How do I get this new dipstick tube back into the block? Any tricks?
I have searched the archives with no success.

It should slide right in. Is all of the old tube out of the block?

Try putting it in the freezer for a while, to let it contract and give a bit of clearance.

        Hi Jim

I have a 62 vette and what I did for mine was put some oil on a q-tip and rub it in around the hole and around the tube end.Set the tube in the hole and with a blunt end screw driver and hammer, tap the little flange to seat the dip stick tube. It worked for me.

        Good luck..........John

find a box end wrench that fits over the tube

and rests on the dip stick tube flange and then tap it in with a hammer on the wrench

Stupid question, but are you putting the correct side down? I had real trouble putting mine in--it just wouldn't go in. Then I turned it upside down (the correct orientation, and with a small smack with a rubber mallet, it went right in.

            Good luck.

I used a socket and long extension over the tube and hammered it down. Worked like a charm.
