    Mystery part_ steering column

    63 convertible__

Does anyone recognize this small red plug with a hole in the center? It was among my steering column parts, in a bag by itself, neatly labeled "you found this in the AIM once, find it again". So far I haven't found it again.

    Steve,

I believe this plastic bushing slips on a (tit) on the turn signal ring which is inside the control assembly and is also indexed to a (W) shaped wire piece that holds the left or right blinker on until it is cancelled by the cancelling cam. Section 12 in the AIM shows the assembly but I did not see this part.

It may be the insulator for the horn contact button so that it will not make metal to metal contact with the steering wheel hub?

Tim's post was correct this part rides back and forth on the spring wire and is controlled by the canceling cam. It should have a little bit of lithium grease on it. If you go to the Long Island Corvette web site and check out Section 18 they show a blow up of the column. Part # 56 directional roller is the part you are talking about. It slips over part # 54 turn signal metal ring.
