63-64 Spare Tire

I have two old bias ply spares. Which one would receive the biggest deduction: 1) Non DOT Firestone Deluxe Champion 8.15-15 datecode 10/67 or 2) BF Goodrich DOT coded G78-15. Tire #1 is mounted on a wheel that doesn't have the bumps at the vavle stem so is that a 65-66 rim?

FYI, the Firestone fits in the spare tub like a charm, the other is wider and barely fits.

Of the two, Firestone was at least a supplier to Corvette, BFG was not.

Bill, BF Goodrich is listed in the judging manual as an OEM, at least for '64.

Yes the Firestone fits perfectly. It is much narrower than the Goodrich and the tub cover snugs down tight against the tub like I've always thought it should. That's one of the reasons I was leaning towards using that tire, coupled with the fact it is a non DOT tire. Despite the fact the size isn't exactly as the juding manual says, I am assuming it will receive a leeser deduct as it is the right brand and style. Is that a bad assumption?

I'd have to research the JG and look at the score sheets to answer that specific question. Do you have a JG you can refer to?

believe BFG would be at least 75% deduct and Firestone would be 60% deduct

I have the JG but no matter how many times I read it I'm not perfectly clear. Basically any repro OEM will receive a deduct of 10 to 30%. Non OEM Brand deduct 40%. Current OEM, bias or radial with proper size, whitewall etc is 60% deduct, with non-0EM 75% deduct.

I'm going to stick with the non dot tire that fits in the tub. It's OEM, non DOT and is original to a 60's car.

I drive my cars. Although the spare isn't an issue, I would love for the NCRS ro adopt a rule whereas anyone driving to a meet would be excluded from the deduct for radial tires. I've heard many argue for completely eliminating the penalty for radial tires which I don't think is reasonable nor likely. But to encourage driving of our beloved Corvettes, a very good solution would be in fact to allow cars driven to meets the tire exemption. My two cents.
