    Interesting Corvette(?) headers on eBay

I'm fascinated with the header design used on this engine:

Apparently all of the hot rodder's creative thought went into the design of the exhaust. Maybe that's why he put no thought into the selection of an air cleaner.

This engine is a hodge-podge of parts from several year models and aftermarket manufacturers. I don't think my bid is going to be competitive at all. But I would sure love to display those headers on my wall.

1962 327/375????? Dual collectors per bank.......not very good for scavenging the exhaust.

a version of that header is still sold today

they are called 4 into 2 into 1. the 2 were tied together with a "Y" and then exited into 1 pipe.they are done this way for 2 reasons, ground clearance and changing the power band. that engine looks like it was run in a dirt track race car

I do not know about 62 engine colors but were the water pump pulleys usually orange. My 1963 FI came with an orange pulley but a lot of judges gave grief.

Re: Interesting Corvette(?) headers on eBay

          Hello David,

If the w/pump pulley was painted orange on your car when it was delivered to you brand new, it almost had to have happened at the dealer during new car prep or some other operation. The w/pump pulley was a long way away from the engine when the engine was painted orange. The engine and pulley first met at the St. Louis assy plant.

There is one remote possibility though. If your car received something called "8 cyl cond" (8 cylinder conditioning) at the assy plant, it's POSSIBLE that the pulley was painted there/then, but very unlikely.

The "8 cyl cond" was a plant version of the dealer pre delivery process and at times, some light orange paint touch up may have been done. Most of the cars that received this were headed for very special people or were to be used in advertising etc.

            Michael,
The pulley was not painted by the dealer. My brother was there when the car was unloaded from the truck(it had to be pushed off since it would not start) and he and I picked the car up the next day. Within the first week the FI high preasure pump had to be replaced.

I have also spoken with and seen other examples of this happening. All have been special high performance cars eithe 360 or 340 HP unrestored cars that I have known about for 30+ years.

I have also owned a second 340 Hp 63 built the same day as my old Z06 and it had a black water pump pulley. I guess this is one of those mystries that will never have a perfect answer.
            Best regards

              3 different designs of 1968-69 L88 hoods

I have so far identified 3 different versions of the 1968-69 L88 hood. Are there any others out there?

              A) The air plenum and hood supporting structure are one piece. The support at the opening of the hood scoop is a 1/4" thick straight piece of fiberglass. The support only has provisions for the 1968-71 style prop.

              B) The air plenum is a seperate piece from the hood supporting frame. The support at the opening of the scoop is a 1/8" thick zigzag shaped piece of fiberglass. The supporting frame only has provisions for the 1968-71 style prop.

              C) Same as "B" except the hood supporting frame has provisions for both the 1968-71 and the 1972 prop lengths.

              Any thoughts on this?
              Thanks,
              Mark
