63 water pump

'63 water pump for Feb. FI car. Reading the archives I have surmised that the '609 pump is correct although the JM isn't clear on this. I have both the '609 and the 326 to pick from. Will the '609 pass judging with flying colors? Thanks very much. John D.

Yes, '609 will pass and there's some controversy (at least by evidence offered here on the board) as to whether the '326 pump actually followed the '609 or if there was an intermediate pump ('185) between the two...

and it goes even broaded than 609 vs 326 - TIM J&G is really incorrect and has been for quite some time - 326 was NOT available to support 1963 applications, if you look at the blue prints for the 326 development!

609 is the CORRECT water pump application for ALL 1963's from what I have been able to determine (the "185" or whatever other application Jack mentioned, may or may not be correct?) - believe Michael Hanson and Bob Jorjorian agree with my assertion

I want to thank Jack and Rick for their courteous answer on the '609 water pump. That's definitely the pump I will use. I will bring this subject up at the regional in Auburn this week to the head honchos. Take care and thanks very much, John D.

Rick is correct with going with the 609 and forget about the 326.
Please let us know how the "head honchos" use/receive your input regarding correct water pumps in 1963.Good luck in Auburn,Bob
