Internet courtesy (actually the lack thereof)

I've watched some folks post questions on this board, get good polite answers, and then disappear without so much as a Hi, Bye, or Kiss My Fanny response message. What's up with that?

Is this like hearing "No problem" instead of "you're welcome"? In other words, just something you come to expect from the next generation? Pisses me off.

    The T.I.A. is implied

Besides, in the internet age, "thank-you"s are considered a waste of bandwidth. On discussion boards, the appreciation-only response should be made directly by email, as it has no bearing on the subject at hand to others.

I hate clicking on the 45th posting in a thread, only to find that the entire message is "Thanks" And I am sure John W. would appreciate less clutter to archive.

I agree. I find that those few who respond after the fact telling us what they found, what worked or didn't work, and give follow-ups actually help in many ways. There are very few new ways that things break or don't work as designed. Why not share what worked for you? Spare others the hassle of seeing lots of helpful techniques, hints, etc and tell us what fixed your problem?

        Re: The T.I.A. is implied

A previous thread addressed this very subject and I believe the vast majority believed that it is implied and they don't want to clog up the site with a bunch of "thank you's" and " your welcome's".

I sometimes ask follow-up questions because the information provided in the original post may not be sufficient to determine an answer, but sometimes I never get a response.

Trust me, Jerry, the courtesy and civility on this board FAR EXCEEDS most on the internet. In the past year I've quit every other forum (involving Corvettes and some other cars), and this is now the only one where I participate.

            My point exactly.

            You just expressed it better.

Oops! Wasted some more precious bandwidth! H.A.N.D., "No problem", and Winking Smiley Face!

You're right about the other Corvette websites.

But I can't make myself look away from the CorvetteForum. It's got too much in common a major train wreck: mechanical mayhem, disfigurement, and smoking wreckage. I even think those guys use the Jaws of Life for some of their repair work.

You are giving some too much credit! Ever operate the Jaws of Life? It requires you to think and decide what action you need and then the reaction it causes.

C'mon guys, there have been some noteworthy projects over on the Corvette Forum done by some very talented guys. Some are even done to NCRS standards. I am aware there are a few pis*ing matches from time to time but all in all for a "public" site I'd say it's pretty good. I've learned stuff from both the NCRS and Corvette Forum sites. I know I've thanked Duke and others before but I'll say it again. Thank you. If it weren't for volunteer contributors like yourselves these boards would not be the wealth of info they are.

                    "I've got a '64 coupe."

"How much is it worth, and will the 18" wheels and tires from a '96 Winnebago fit? If not, where can I buy adapters?"

they just cut me off over at the corvette foreskin

because i picked on one of their vendors by posting what he was selling was avaiable from your corvette dealer free as a fix. i had posted last year what i had done to my C-6 to fix the door alignment problem and even showed it to the corvette engineers at bowling green last april at the NCM. this vendor posted then how i was going to screw up my doors but now GM has come out with the very same fix as i did he is now trying to sell this product as a fix. they do not want you to pick on their supporters over there because i posted the part numbers for the GM parts and the TSB that goes with them and they deleated my post so i got into a pissing contest with this vendor. if you want to have some fun go to corvette forum, click on C-6 corvette general discussion,go down to "save your car before it's too late" and post that GM will fix it for nothing just have your dealer check TSB 06-08-64-019 and install part # 15887058

I agree with Wayne. I too send an email directly to the person(s) that gave me the advice I was searching for. I also hate clicking on a thread only to find "Thanks".

I find most people say Thanks in advance when they are seeking advice/information. I know there are some that never say thanks but I also know they are the exception to our hobby.

You know, Corvette Forum isn't the only one that deletes messages. I remember several here a few months ago disappearing.

I believe that is clear in their policy. You can post what you want IF it doesn't interfere with an approved (i.e., supporting) vendor's business.

So if I pay them and then decide to sell USPS Priority Mail boxes, and you come along and mention they are free in the Post Office , you get your message booted even though true.

CF is like here; neither are public forums, they are privately-owned operating in a public format. The owners can make their rules and if you don't agree, too bad. This isn't Usenet.

                              no big deal as

they have outlived their usefulness as a corvette info website. i have already remove them from my favorites. they emailed and said i was not allowed to post till july but i email them back and told them to take my name from the their list as i will not be posting over there ever again. i think most poster over the age of 25 have left their website anyways
