C2 Front Shock Washer Finish

Looking in the TIM&JG for the finish of the washer for the front shocks on my 67 they described the finish as "a natural finish". Is that finish black phosphate by chance? There has been black paint overspray on mine and before I run off to the media blaster I would appreciate the input of the members of this board.

The original finish on a 67 front upper shock washer was a medium grey plating of some kind. Someone that knows all about plating may be able to tell us what it is and how to duplicate it. I suppose it could be a light phos plate which may result in the grey color. If you clean off the black paint on the ones you have, you may see the remains of the grey plating.

This part is still available from GM but I understand the plating is now black, or near black instead of the correct grey.
