Purchase five one quarter inch by six inch long bolts. Hang the board on the bolts and start to hook up the lights and wiring. It also helps to remove the seat for better acces. After the hook up slide the board back in place and change the bolt out to the correct screws.

    Hope this helps

      Yes, remove the seat

or make an appointment with your chiropractor. Good advice on the bolts. Start with the connections at the top and work your way down.

Also lower the steering column (or remove)

Makes the job easier still. Slip it out of the top splined coupling of the rag joint. One more item to clean, check bearings, touch-up (paint) scratches.

Joe, tell us what year car you have when you post. 63 and 64 clusters are harder to install due to their thickness. When I install clusters I remove the seat, the steering column and the pedal assembly. This adds a half hour to the job but makes it a lot easier to connect the wires, plug in the lights and connect the cables.. Plus this is the opportune time to clean and lubricate the pedal pivot shaft.

I agree 100% with Wayne's recommendation to remove the steering column. It's easily removed and makes the rest of the job MUCH easier.

Joe, while your in the area, check all the bushing/spring on the clutch/brake assembly. This would be a good time to replace those parts. If there is surface rust on the area it's easy to drop the who assembly, media blast it and paint it. It will protect it for another 40 years and give a new under dash look.

Also check the lower bearing on the steering column!
