C1- Turn Signal/Horn Contact Help Needed Badly!!

    1. On the inside of my steering wheel hub assembly, there is a "Cam" part# 5943818 mounted with two screws....any chance that anyone has one of these for sale or knows of a repro. for sale? My original steering wheel and hub was missing which would include this part. (This part can be seen in Noland Adams book on page 249 in the upper diagram.)
    2. Is the nut that is on the turn signal lever chrome plated or zinc?
    3. My horn button which is mounted to the repro. horn contact has very, very little movement which would make me suspect that getting the horn to blow could be a challenge. Is this because of the quality of the repro. horn contact or is there something that I am missing?

      Justin--
Unless my memory is really bad:
That cam is not a 56-62 part, in spite of the AIM
The parts in your steering column necessary for your horn to work are:
Steering column upper bearing with wire that goes down the column and plugs into the harness.
plastic sleeve (white) that fits in the hole in the steering wheel hub that is unthreaded, extends all the way through, and at the top has a recess for the shoulder of the sleeve to sit in.
spring-loaded contact that touches the upper surface of the upper bearing and locates inside the white sleeve.
"cam" that has an elbow extension that attaches to the top of the steering wheel hub and has the spring steel ears into which the horn button pops.

When you push the horn button, it forces the spring steel to touch the hub somewhere, completing the circuit, and energizing the horn relay which activates the horn.
Your concern about the movement of the horn button because of the horn contact could be real---it doesn't take a lot of movement. Without the horn button on, if you can get the contact to touch any portion of the steering wheel hub, you will be okay.

      Good luck!
      Mike

Dunno about later C1's, but my 57's didn't have that screw-attached cam plate with the tang on it - they had two roll-pins pressed into the back side of the hub, which must be at 8 o'clock and 10 o'clock (as viewed from the driver's seat) with the wheels straight ahead in order to cancel the turn signals properly.
