    C2:67 Here's my weekend

One step at a time. These old parts clean up pretty well.

    Having fun,

Hi Jerry, What process did you use exactly to clean them up. They look great.
    Aloha, Irby

      Irby,

On the horn relay cap I used a fine wire wheel to get all of the corrosion off, then finish polished it with a blue Nyalox wheel on drill (Dico Industries-nylon wheel with abrasive). It actually came out looking pretty good, but I plated a coat of zinc on it and then polished it again.

On the hood brace, I soaked it in spray-on foaming engine degreaser to get most the heavy grease off, scraped off the rest. Then I used the fine wire wheel followed by the blue Nyalox wheel. I did not replate the hood brace as it looked pretty good.

Both parts have a light coat of Tri-flo (similar to WD-40) for corossion protection.

        Jerry:
Nice work! I have a hood support for a '66 that I'm trying to figure how to replate. I need to find a container that I can "stretch" out the support and have the room for the anodes, etc. If you have any ideas let me know.

          Jeff,

You could probably use one of those troughs they use to wet wallpaper and put your anode in horizontally. Or any of those rectangular poly storage containers, you can get at Walmart or Orchards.

Or you could plate the hood brace half at a time in a 2 gallon bucket. I doubt that you will be able to tell the extra thickness at the center after you polish it out.

          Regards,

            Very nice Jerry!

Jeff, not sure if this will work or not but you might try a piece of 4" or 6" pvc with an end cap from Home Depot for your hood support. I haven't progressed to my Caswell kit yet to try it but I've heard that this works.

I used a container about one half the length of the brace. I slowly lowered the brace into the solution until it was a little more than half immersed, removed the piece and did the same with the other end. The over lap is not noticeable. A piece of plastic pipe works just fine. I made a stand so it wouldn't tip over.
