    Ebay beware!

I bid on Jay's 1955 Corvette (red, restored) and didn't win. It sold for $130,000 I beleive. I also bid on a hard top about a month or so ago. I didn't win that auction, either.

In both cases, I got an email from someone saying the original buyer backed out and, as the seller, they would accept my high bid of (whatever my highest bid was). They asked me to contact them via email about sending a deposit.

Since I've dealt with Jay before, I forwarded the email to him just to let him know what was going on. I also contacted the seller of the hard top and sent him a copy of the email I got on his item. Both emailed me back confirming it was a scam.

Someone is watching big ticket Corvette items on eBay (probably other stuff too, like Rolex watches) and contacting bidders who were outbid in an effort to create a little side income.

    Buyer beware.

    Re: Ebay beware!

Yes, I have gotten those bogus 2nd chance offers a number of times. They usually show up with high dollar auctions. I received a bogus 2nd chance offer on a set of original knockoffs that I won. He was trying to sell me the wheels that I had already bought and received! Don't believe any notices from paypal or ebay that you only get via email! Legit offers will show up when you log into your account.

That is a good reason the bidders names should only be made available to the seller.

I guess that explains lack of response in 2 of my recent EBAY auctions. The "winner" was not eligible or ignored all contact. So, I contacted the 2nd highest bidders but the these attempts failed to produce a sale.

I've received these too, even when there were five or so other bidders that outbid me. I think it is a scam to get you to use your password on a fake sign-on, and then use your ID, password and good history on one of their scams advertising 435 hp 427s for $7,000.00 "buy it now".

Don't respond to any ebay email unless it is in your ebay "my messages" folder.
