A few weeks ago I posted about my `76 bogging & hesitating. After many well thought out replies. I had my Q-Jet rebuilt, new fuel filter.Replaced the fuel pump last Sept. Seemed to run worse when it was low on gas. Today I dropped the tank anticipating to see a collapsed bladder, but not!!! What I found was about 4-5 pounds of sugar, yes thats right, it was running too sweet. Cleaned the tank & sending unit, checked the carb, new fuel filter and now its back to normal. I bought the car last August fron a guy who just got divorced. I think his ex had a hand in the sugar jar. I`ve had a hard time getting it to run with consistency since last October. Only when I`d fill the tank I ran OK. Again thanks for all the support posts. I would have never guessed this would be the outcome.

I guess the old "sugar in the tank" routine
is now a busted myth. I have heard, and always assumed that the sugar would disolve and then carbonize (is that a word?) in the cylinders. Myth Busters did a sequence on things you put in your tank to kill the engine. Like your car, the old Chevy V8 continued to run. The one thing that stopped it cold? Bleach. Not only did it kill the engine, it rusted the tank so badly that they had to clean it out before continuing. Of course, bleach is an oxidizer.
Glad to hear to can now enjoy your Corvette. Btw, did you let the past owner know of his car's condition?

Re: The end of my C3 bogging & hesitating epic
Halloween night 1974 my locking gas caps on my 68 and my 70 kept some kids from putting tomatoes in the gas tanks. These assxxxxx were later caught in the act urinating in another apartment dwellers gas tank. Mom and dad had to pay.- Top
