C1 generator support bracket color?

For '56 and '57 I see some generator brackets painted engine color and some painted semi-gloss black. Any concensus on which is correct? Was there a cut-off within production where they switched from one to the other?

Yes, there was a cutoff, but it isn't reflected in the '56-'57 JG. The P/N 3704884 generator brace was removed from the Flint V-8 plant Bill of Material for 1955 Corvette V-8 engines ("FG" and "GR" codes) in March, 1955, and beginning in April, 1955, that brace was dip-primed semi-gloss black and installed at St. Louis, as reflected in the '56-'57 Assembly Manual (UPC 6, Sheet 9.00).

So actually my brace should be dipped semi-gloss black having been assembled very late June of 1956 correct?

The Fourth Edition '56-'57 JG says: "...and is painted engine color, except for possibly some black painted braces on mid-to-late 1957."

The '56-'57 JG is in the process of being revised, and hopefully this item will be corrected in the next edition.

If it was my car, I'd paint the brace semi-gloss black and be prepared to defend it; that's what I did on my '57, and got no deduction.
