I wish to replace the battery in my 1967 327/300. When I go to the GM dealer what battery do I ask for? No A/C.

I just got the delco battery with the lift strap on it from the local mega chain auto parts store. It made the installation much easier. You don't have to remove the expansion tank completely, just loosen the brackets and move it out of the way.

Wow! Now that surprises me. Are you talking about a "low maintenance" type battery (i.e. low profile, "semi-sealed", rectangular cap(s)) or an old-fashioned type? Anyway, even the "low maintenance" type would seem to be a regression. However, it may be that Delco has switched suppliers for the group 24 battery which is probably a lower volume item these days. DELPHI wants to get out of the battery manufacturing business and, perhaps, they no longer make this one. So, Johnson Controls, Interstate, or someone else may be the new source. Many Interstate batteries are of the "low maintenance" design.
In any event, I don't see why a "low maintenance" type battery cannot be equipped with a battery lift strap. However, it may be that whoever is now supplying the Delco battery does not make them that way. Without the lugs on the ends of the battery there's no way the battery can be supplied with the strap. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Joe, my new AC Delco Profesional battery has 2 rectangular caps (aprox. 1" X 4 " caps) that look like they hinge open. The battery also has a new strap holder that comes in contact with the battery door (AC car).- Top
