    C3/Low Oil Pressure Reading

Drove my 1970 LT1 today.Checked the oil it was full and clean. She started right up.Idled well 700-800 rpm's when warm.Oil pressure gauge was at 35.After driving about 5 miles, stopped at a light the gauge was nearly above zero. The car still was running perfectly.Gauge never went above 35 while driving.
    Oil Pump?
The gauge was rebuilt by Corvette Specialties.
    What could be the problem?

      Greg----

I don't really think that there's a problem. What surprises me is that the oil pressure was at 35 PSI at IDLE just after initial start-up.

Anyway, before making any sort of judgement as to the engine component condition, you need to install a test gauge of known accuracy to see just where you're actually at. My recommendation is to install a 1/8" NPT "tee" in the oil pressure fitting on the block. Connect the existing oil pressure line to one fitting on the "tee". Connect the test gauge to the other fitting. Then, you can see where you're at and effectively "calibrate" the in-car gauge. I think you'll find that the in-car gauge reads somewhat low, especially at idle RPM.

        Valvoline 10W40.
The line is connected properly and is full.
