C-2; Power Steering Pump

Well, I backed my '64 out of the garage today after winter storage...And what did I find, but power steering fluid all over the floor. I knew this was going to happen when I stored it in the fall last year. The power steering pump has been leaking for quite a while so now it's time to do something about it.

My question is if I should try to buy a new pump that has been rebuilt, or if I should have mine rebuilt? It's a numbers matching car, though I figure the pump has been changed before in the last 40+ years. Any advice would be great. I can't drive the car until the 23rd of June, so I have a little bit of time to play with. However, you can count on me driving that car at 12:01am on June 23rd, so I want to be ready to go.

Isaac in previous issue of the Restorer there is an article on how to bebuild your power steering pump.

It's simple to repalce the large O ring seal , get a kit

Don,

If you have a 1963 shop manual there is a section that covers power steering and pump overhaul. These manuals are on ebay all the time and are a must if you own a C2.

Zip has a very nice article on rebuilding all of the components for the PS system. I downloaded the .pdf files and they are actually pretty decent.
