    C2:67 Seat Back latch

The drivers side seat back latch refuses to stay latched on my 67. Any slight forward force unlatches the seat back. Anyone have a similar experience and fix.

The latch mechanism in the seat back looks OK and unlaches with the lever. Could it be a bend in the hockey sticks. There seems to be more side clearance of the back to the bottom on the latch side then the other side.

Jerry, Had the same problem with mine. Threw the seat away and now sit on crates...... Actually if you adjust the latch on the rear of the seat it'll again work correctly. Easiest to remove seat from car and do it on the bench. It didn't take much adjustment.

      Re: C2:67 Seat Back latch

      Steve,

How does latch mechanism adjust? I have had the seat out and the back off. The latch works just great on the bench but goes back to unlatching when I put the back onto the bottom. Is there a way to adjust the position of the latch on the seat back in relationship to the strike bar on the seat bottom.

Seems like the two are about an 1/8" off horizontally, and the seat back is shifted to one side moving the latch and the strike bar away from each other.

If memory serves... the bar on the seat bottom can be shifted in some slotted holes. The upolstery might be holding it from moving. Remove the bar and you should be able to see how it is assembled.

          Steve,

I think that will work, thanks. I was trying to adjust the wrong part.

            5 minutes to fix

            Steve,

Thanks for your advice. Used the bubba method. With the seat in the car, I loosened the screws on the strike bar attached to the seat bottom. Then I gave it a couple of whacks with a hammer (with a wood block in between) to move it over (and up) the 1/8" or so. Then tightened the screws real tight. Works just like new.

Next time I take the seat out, I'll cut the fabric to fit the correct position of the striker fitting and shim it in position.

This was 4 points off out of a total 6, I lost on operations last time. So, I'm working on perfecto (but I know they will come up with something else next time).

            However, Thank you, Thank you.
