    1964 Z06 Coupe!?

Got my Old Car Weekly in the mail today, and according to Mecum, they will be auctioning TWO Z06's from Dr. Vance Shappley Collection at Bloomington Gold during June 16-18 - a 1963 and a 1964!? Both of these vehicles supposedly are in the Bloomington Gold Hall of Fame

Anybody know anything about this 1964 Z06!? Has it been through NCRS!?

FYI - also claims to be auctioning the FIRST production Corvette that came off the assembly line at Flint - #5

    Rick,

I have SOME history on the 64 and a pile of history and info on the 63. (#8848) Both cars are legit, although the 64 probably wouldn't be refered to as a Z06. I believe by the 64 model, the paperwork would list the same options as a Z06/N03 but it wasn't officially called Z06.

As was already stated more or less there is no such thing as a '64 Z-06, but since all the equipment that was originally included with the first or second release '63 Z-06 Special Performance Equipment Package was available separately, you could build a '64 that had all the same equipment as either release, but at best, it should be referred to as "'64 Z-06 equivalent".

            Duke,

agree - like I mentioned, Mecum trying to drive the price before the car gets to auction

-------I dont think he is trying to drive the price anywhere. Its just an easy, quick way to describe a 64 with all the Z06 equipment. You dont honestly think that anyone that bids on that car on that day will not know the specifics of the car do you???........Bill S

A proper description is "'64 Z-06 equivalent" or "'64 with all HD equipment from the '63 Z-06 package (first or second release)".

Calling it a "'64 Z-06" is a misrepresentation, and, yes, I think there will be bidders who don't know the difference (look at B-J last January), but that's really their problem.

In addition to being a misrepresentation, calling a '64 a "Z-06" is junk history.

Two Idiots That Knew More About.....

...The mountains and snow storms than all the people that warned us just before leaving Salt Lake City, Utah, with the #8848 Z06 in tow, heading east toward Cheyanne, Wy.

This pic was taken (by me) in about 1980 just before our near demise in the blizard. I'm sure Dr Shappley well remembers this day. I know I'll never forget it.

                      Re: Like "Radio Delete"???

Yes, "radio delete" is a misnomer up until the early/mid seventies when a radio was included with base models (I can't remember the exact year).

Same for "heater delete" on C1s up to '62, which was the year a heater became standard, but the NCRS Spec Guide lists no heater delete RPO code for '62. The first such listing is C-48 for '63.

BTW, a heater was included with Z-06 because it was part of the base vehicle, but could be deleted with C-48. Some racers wanted the heater because it could come in handy durilng a long, cold, wet endurance race.

And God bless those bidders who know the value of a ZO6 today and what they expect it to be in 2011.

That coupe looks a little light in the nose. Is the engine in the back of the wagon for added traction?
