A much surer thing than those numbers is the VIN stamping on the flat spot in front of the side cover. That will tell you in a minute if it is or is not from a 62.

      Roy------

I think he's reading the numbers wrong. There never was a main case of casting #3925858 that I can find. However, there was a casting GM #3925656. This is the main case used for 68-70 Saginaw 4 speed transmissions. I think that the same casting may have been used for the 78-79 "Muncie" transmission which was used for many L-48 Corvettes of those years as well as many other passenger cars. This main case is CAST IRON. So, if the transmission main case is cast iron, this is likely what it is.

There was an ALUMINUM main case used for Muncie transmissions during the 68-69 period which was of GM casting #3925660. This is a little further from the reported "3925858" but it's also a possibility, I suppose. If the main case is ALUMINUM, this is probably what it is.

I can't find any reference to the 6261886. However, it's possible that it was the sidecover used for the 78-79 "Muncie". I don't currently have any reference for the casting number used for that sidecover (which was PART #462225). If the sidecover is cast iron, then it's likely the late 70's "Muncie" piece. The 6261886 casting number is a Chevrolet part number, but it's origin is from the early 70's and certainly not 1962.

Ask him how many bolt holes on the sidecover and on the case where the sidecover attaches. T-10 parts did not carry GM part numbers on the part.
