Hi All, Having trouble with one of my headlight motors. Testing it off the car. Sometimes it appears to work fine. Other times spins freely at good speed and then with no load stops. Try to restart nothing happens. Hook up power to other side. Nothing. Wait a minute or so spins until it binds again. Everything was cleaned and looks good including brushes. Any recommendations or trouble shooting steps. Thanks.

Re: '66 Headlight Motor Question
The thermal overload switch isn't meant to be tested! It's a Federal safety requirement for electric motors and the 'feature' is built into the motor to prevent fire/melt-down in the event of severe overload.- Top

Re: '66 Headlight Motor Question
It is inside the motor near the brushes. It may also have dirty points, take an ign points file and clean the contacts, and make sure the bimetal spring is applying solid pressure to the points...Craig- Top
