Can anyone post correct exhaust C2 or C3

Would anyone possibly be able to post pictures of a correct original exhaust system for the C3 or C2, specifically the configuration of the bends? I am looking at some older than dirt used pipe bending machines and am wondering if they could produce the correct looking bends.

    Thanks for your help,

The original exhaust pipes for most C2 and C3 Corvettes were die-formed rather than mandrel bent. So, I don't think that any bending machine will re-create the exact, original configuration. Attached is a photo of a typical bend from an NOS 63-72 2-1/2" rear pipe. The pipes also exhibit many other facets of configuration such as swages which I don't think can be duplicated with a mandrel bending machine.

Yes, one might get away with just freeing it up; obviously, it's worth a try.

Heat riser valves become disfunctional for several reasons. First-and-foremost is the build-up of exhaust deposits on the valve "butterfly" and shafts. Second, the intrusion of some of these deposits into the shaft/bushing interface. Third, the failure of the return spring after distempering due to repeated high heat/cooling cycles.

The application of certain penetrating solvents will help with the second condition described above but will do little for the others. I've found that GM Heat Valve Lubricant is the absolute best product for this (and, many other things, too). I've used this product for more than 35 years.

Corvette heat riser valves beginning about 1966 were equipped with brass bushings in the main body for the shaft. If I recall correctly, for 1966 and/or 1967 heat risers so-equipped were used mostly for K-19 applications. After this time, all the valves were equipped with brass shaft bushings, including the SERVICE valves for 57+ applications. I don't know how the bushings could be replaced, though, even if you could get them. I don't think it would be worth the trouble----if you have the valve off the car, replacing it would seem like the best course.

There are tubing benders that will duplicate the bends, but I do not think that you will find any at your local Midas muffler shop. These machines are considerably more expensive and are designed for large production operations. We supposedly will see correct? reproduction pipes shortly.

            Mark,

As shown in Joes picture, the forward head pipes have 4 of these unique crimp/bump sections each, the intermediary pipes have 5 such sections and the mufflers have 1 section each.
