Re: Don't Let The Turkeys Get You Down!!

NCRS policy is a NCRS member must register for the meet to attend any of the meet functions which includes Judging & Tech Sessions, Receptions, Happy Hours, Awards Banquet and particpate in Judging etc. NCRS members and the public since about 2001 can attend for one day and pay a day public entrance fee for those meets who charge daily entry fees. Hope this helps. Gary....

Re: Don't Let The Turkeys Get You Down!!

The published Registration Guidelines (since 2004) indicate that NCRS members and non-members can purchase a "day pass" (for only one day, not multiple days) at Regional or National meets for a nominal fee ($5.00 - $10.00) which entitles them to access to the show field. Members who also want to participate in other Meet activities (tech seminars, judging schools, meetings, etc.) are expected to register for the event.

In addition, as others have mentioned, the amount that any of this is enforced will vary from meet to meet.

I've been to meets where your ID was checked every time, and others where it was so lax that anyone could attend anything. The key, as always, is to look like you belong.

NCRS events are like most spectator events

If you go to an air show, a fireworks display (like Disneyworld), or a Ted Nugent concert, and sit outside to watch (listen) from a distance, it is free. If you want in where the things are happening, you have to pay the gate price.

The difference is that many NCRS events, the judging is on an open-to-the-public parking lot, as is the swap meet if one, and you get in the same as the public - free or a nominal gate fee.

If you want in the judging seminars, the parties, and so on, you have to pay the registration fee.

I don't have a copy of the regulations on the day pass, but I seem to remember it was a per-day for the public, but the NCRS member was restricted to only ONE of the per-day passes. If you wanted in for two days or more, you had to pay the full registration. Lesson - leave your NCRS card at home and pretend to be John Q. Public.

I've heard often it is for insurance purposes, but I have yet to receive a copy of what my NCRS membership insurance covers.

I really wish you could edit

            I meant to say:

If you want in the judging seminars, the parties, and so on (the non-public stuff), you have to pay the registration fee.

              Bernard,

Just out of curiosity, I'd like to know for what "insurance purposes". This seems like it could be a very serious matter. Thanks.

Member #36987. Are we suppose to have membership cards. All I ever got was a postcard with my number on it? Thanks, Mike

No membership cards. If you judge each year you get a judging level registration card and that is the only card I know of.

                      Hi Paul
its June 8-10 (this Thu-Sat) at the Sheraton West Port Plaza. I'll be the one slinking around pretending not to be an NCRS member (kidding).
I'm glad I started this thread... I'm also glad to hear about the one-day-only thing so I have a good reason to drive to St Louis and not mow.

                        Enjoyed the show....

Went on Friday, nice stuff. Still can't quite describe "Signet red." Lipstick? Neat, though.
Couple other interesting oddities... red '63 air roadster ("RAIR" license plate, nice touch) and the green '67 with the Motion/Baldwin window sticker and '73 Commonwealth of Massachusetts inspection sticker... I remember getting one of those there then...
