Would someone please tell me the correct datecode for an early '57 (October), with regard to engine block. I have a 548 block dated I-16-6 stamped FC(passenger car) and a 548 block dated H-30-56 stamped F (Vette). Which is correct? If either? I thought '56 was a passenger car block while '6 was a Vette block.

Re: engine datecodes
Two digit date codes in the block casting date indicate casting in Tonawanda, New York. These blocks were not used in Corvettes of your vintage. (All BB's and possibly some 64/65 small blocks were cast in Tonawanda). The single digit date code is a Flint/Saginaw casting and is correct for your car. NCRS gives you up to 6 months prior to vehicle assembly as a correct date. Calculate your vehicle assembly date and see if the Flint block works for you. Hope this helps. Re: Addendum
The September Flint block sounds like it's "perfect" for your October, 56 assembled 57. Went back and re-read your post!! Chuck1963 Corvette Conv. 327/360 NCRS Top Flight
