About 18 months ago someone was researching what the original keys for a '62 looked like---could not find them at the time, but have them now if anyone is interested on the wording, shape.

Re: 1962 keys
Sandra - Glad you found the keys and remembered that request. Gary Beaupre is the person who was collecting the information on the original keys. He and I did some research on the GM & Brigg & Stratton logo information on the key heads and the size of the key ring hole in the KNOCK OUTs of the small head keys (up thru 1968), plus additional information and published it in the RESTORER. We're always interested in additional information to add to the database to confirm (or not) the conclusions we found from the original responders. You may post the information on the NCRS DB or sent an E-mail to me and I'll forward it to Gary. Thanks , Pete
PS - If anyone else out there didn't respond previously and has information on their original keys, let us know.- Top

Original keys; a post script
I'll just add one note to what Pete said. Pete and I are happy to add new information to our database, which focuses primarily on the size of the key ring hole. The challenge is to find keys that have not been altered or aged, e.g., turning a small hole key into a large hole key either by drilling it out or by enlargement from daily or weekly wear on a key ring after 40 or 50 years of use. So, we're interested in your keys if you believe them to be original and if they are relatively pristine in terms of wear of the key ring hole, i.e., that key that you tucked away in a drawer and never or rarely used. Also, note , if your key does not have the 4 digit (or 3 digit+ 1 alpha) key code stamped into the knockout, then it is not original.
Thanks,
Gary- Top

Re: 1962 keys
To Pete and Gary: This key has some of the finish worn off and was used from 1962 to 1979. There is a slight raised rim around the key hole that is intact. One side says GM YOUR KEY TO GREATER VALUE and the other side says BRIGGS & STRATTON CORPORATION MILWAUKIE WIS USA This key has 15N stamped on the B & S side. The hole appears to be even and not excessively worn. Also I have with it another key that says GAS on one side with 4 stamped numbers and BRIGGS & STRATTON on the other. I have calipers to measure height and width if you think these are original.- Top

Re: 1962 keys
Let me express my profound ignorance and ask what the knock out is---I assume it is the head of the key? The only numbers on it are 15N and it is located after the N in STRATTON and before the M in MILWAUKIE. This is the key that came with the car when it was bought with 1500 miles on it in late 1962 or early 1963.- Top
