Mike, No, but it sounds like a repair for bad bulb socket to housing ground. Dave

      Dave,

I should have mentioned that these cars left the St. Louis plant with these strange lamps. The black plastic covered section of the extension only had two wires in it instead of the usual three and the third wire was on the outside. Looked like it was added later. (because it was)

There were a lot of these made this way and it wasn't a mistake. The original two wire lamp was by design.

There's a good reason why these lamps were this way.

          Alan,

The addition of the third wire was for the ground. It was soldered to the housing, then taped to the outside of the black wire cover and attached to the usual three pack connector at the other end of the harness that most C2 lamps used. It looks like someone just forgot to include the ground wire in the harness, then added it later. (it was added later but not because it was forgotten)

We need someone to post a pic of one of these strange lamps if there are any more left out there.

The well known 1500 mile green 65 FI conv had a pair of these lamps. I think most have been replaced because restorers thought they were home grown.

            To Be Continued....

I'll have one of these lamps next week and post a pic/details at that time.
