    confussed on engine removal

I have a 1975 and I want to remove the engine to rebuild it. I thought that i would pull the tranny before i did the motor. I went under the car yesterday and it looks like the whole thing has to come out as one unit..Is this correct? I thought i could remove the tranny but looking at it i am not sure if it is possible. The cross menber is the welded type and it just seems like there will not be enough room to get the tranny out. You must have a 4 Speed and if you do it will come out with no problem. This is the best way if you have no need to remove the radiator.

I have removed my 68's 4-speed a couple times since it was new and it has the same welded crossmember.

You'll have to remove the hood, radiator, shroud etc... then pull the enigne and trans out together.
